The basalt walls that shadow the harbour rise almost 600 metres straight from the Atlantic, and the Guanche people who first named them called the range Muro del Infierno, the Wall of Hell. Sailors of the fifteenth century marked the range on early charts of the Canary Islands.
Beneath those cliffs lives one of Europe's few resident cetacean populations.
